Fit Mums!

One of my missions is to help spread the idea that just because you are a mum, that doesn’t mean that the sexy fit women before babies is a thing of the past. Motherhood is by far the most challenging thing you’ll ever do since it is never ending - but oh so rewarding. But it is so easy to put our kids first and leave ourselves to the last. Before we know it we are tired, out of shape and no longer doing the things that we enjoyed before babies. It is all about creating that balance. But most certainly, the most import factor is your health because if you don’t have your healthy, you don’t really have anything. No mater how busy us mums are…. we must make time for ourselves to have a workout a few times a week. Get out and go for a power walk, hit the gym or do one of my live workouts on twitch while bubba is bouncing in the bassinet. you can log into view my workouts here: www.twitch.tv/sophiafit We can do this and fin time for one hour in the day for US!!!!

lifting heavy vs bodyweight workouts

I recently wrote an article that is yet to be published all about heavy lifting vs body weight workouts. Some people think that lifting heavy is the only way to build muscle and get those ‘gains’. but is it? I address things such as posture and motor neuron efficiency, Are the right muscles firing to perform the lift? I address the issue of long term and acute injury. I also discuss moving with mindfulness and how this can greatly increase muscular activity. Stay tuned for the article. I’ll let you know when it is published.

The Great Outdoors.

While the weather is totally awesome right now get outside as much as you can. Enjoy the fresh air and get some sunlight. I recommend outdoor workouts and walks as much for your mind as well as your body. 30 minutes of natural sunlight every day gives you your daily dose of Vitamin D. Getting outside is also a great way to break up the monotony of sitting in a office all day. Get out for a walk, do some stretches, breath. You’ll feel, refreshed with more vitality.

Get creative with workouts outdoors too. There are so many things you can do with just your body weight such as burpees, push ups, ab work. Find a park bench and do step ups, dips and lunges. Grab a jump rope, do some sprints. The options are endless. Your mind and body will thank you for it.

Maintaining a super healthy lifestyle is hard!!! Especially where there is so much delicious and tempting sweets and quick and easy processed meals available. It is hard to make the time to train or workout when we are all living this fast paced lifestyle with so many obligations. But if health and fitness is what you preach, you have to make time to meal prep to have healthy food always available, and make the time to train. Put simply, if you talk the talk, you have to be able to walk the walk. #keepitreal

My Ms Figure Toning and Sculpting Classes are Starting Soon!

I am super excited to announce that I will be teaching a Ms Figure Toning and Sculpting class starting on October 21st11am every Saturday at the UFC gym! The class is a women's only class and the goal is to tone and sculpt the muscles as well as to burn fat at the same time. The exercises are all body weight exercises from my years as a gymnast, jiu jitsu athlete and as a Figure athlete. They will work your muscles without making you look bulky! Bring yourself, your moms, your sisters and your girl friends. This will be super fun, engaging and challenging. At UFC gym, Blue Diamond. This isn't just a BJJ camp (although there is 2 hours of technique and training every morning), it is about all the aspects that are important in creating a fabulous and healthy lifestyle. This camp includes healthy food/nutrition, movement with yoga and sculpting workouts and the mental aspect where I have a holistic facilitator who does the guided meditations and Warrior Within workshops. This camp will  be covering the theme of eliminating negative self talk which is such a big thing to  hold us back from getting what we want in life. 

The best thing about the camps though is the sisterhood and the lifelong friendships that are created to BJJ. This will be my 6th camp and a wonderful sisterhood that has come about from these.

Completely UNapologetic for being a chick with muscles! 💪 Believe it or not in my teens and early 20's I didn't wear shorts because I was so self conscious about how muscular my legs were. I'd cover my arms too. Now I have reached a point where I embrace it all because my body is forged from a lifetime of doing sports that I love and training damn hard. I don't aspire to be like those skinny waif models. I aspire to be strong, capable, athletic and feminine. And they do all go together.
